Mrs. Allycia Brown has served as an educator and administrator in the North Carolina Independent School sector for twenty years. She has worked in a preschool, early education, lower school, upper school.  She has developed summer camp programs and extended day programs to keep children engaged and parents supported. Allycia has met with hundreds of families and children throughout her time. She understands the power of building strong relationships.

Mrs. Brown attended Clearwater Christian College and Queens University, where she earned her B.S. in Education. She holds a master's degree in Human Service Counseling from Regent University specializing in Personal Development, Marriage, and Family Systems. She is also a certified Gesell Examiner through the Yale Program in Early Childhood, an active member of the National Association for the Education of Young (NAEYC), and a member of the National Organization of Human Services (NOHS). Mrs. Brown and her husband, Shonn, have two biological children: Terrelle (21) and Morgan (18), and have served as host parents to children from China and Vietnam.

I received my master’s in counseling psychology from Evangel University and have 15+ years of experience working in a variety of mental health settings. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including anxiety, shame/guilt, relationship issues/boundaries, grief/loss, and trauma/forgiveness. My passion is helping women discover their identity in Christ and becoming all that God created them to be. I believe every individual is created by God with innate strengths and talents to fulfill their purpose and destiny.

Life is a journey that can often become difficult to maneuver. However, facing life's struggles can empower us to be the people we are intended to be. This process is often mentally and physically exhausting. I would be honored to walk alongside you, your child, and/or your family on your personal journey of self-discovery. I love children and specialize in non-directive play therapy with children 3-7 years of age. Additionally, I work with adolescents and teens navigating the often difficult times of transition through middle/high school. Finally, I have a heart to work with women in life transitions.

I am trained in Non-Directive Play therapy with small children and pursuing certification in play therapy. Additionally,, I am TAC (Training in Adoption Competency) certified and EMDR trained working of towards EMDR certification.

Hello, I’m Scott, Founder of Recovering Hope Counseling. Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. As someone who has been a client as well as a clinician, I can appreciate and respect the courage it takes to seek help for our, emotional, relational, spiritual struggles in life. As a therapist, it is a privilege to walk alongside people for part of their life journey, helping to discover their own God-given uniqueness, and recover their ability to effectively manage their own lives in the midst of an increasingly uncertain world.

I graduated from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Charlotte with a Master’s Degree in Christian Counseling. Prior to starting Recovering Hope Counseling in 2017, I have been working as a therapist since 2012, helping couples, individuals, and groups with relationship, addiction, and mental health problems, including anxiety and depression, grief and loss, dual diagnosis (co-occurring mental health and addictive disorders), personality disorders, and other problems in living. I utilize multiple therapeutic modalities in my counseling, including Cognitive-Behavioral, Brainspotting, Dialectical Behavioral, Emotionally-Focused, Experiential, Internal Family Systems, and Solution-Focused therapies, while emphasizing a spiritual perspective that treats the entire person.

As a former Christian missionary in Spain, I feel comfortable working with people from a variety of ministry contexts, as well as people with no spiritual training or background. I take a respectful, holistic approach to my work, which values each person as a unique individual created by God with a purpose for their life. I have been happily married to the wonderful and amazing Ana for thirty one years and am the proud adoptive father of a three-year old Australian Shepherd named Finnegan.
